A wooden box. It took me 5 full workdays to make it. I worked under supervision and from an existing design. We used machine tools to cut the wood to size, and to route the groove for the bottom; everything else was done using hand tools.
Despite hand-cut dovetails and the hand-shaped lid the box still had something of a DIY look to it all up to the start of day 5. We spent day 5 alternatively applying coats of polish and sanding them down, and by the end of it the box looked like one of those heirloom pieces I saw during a visit to the State Rooms at the Buckingham Palace.
